METALLICA Breaks Sydney Arena Record

November 25, 2010

According to Billboard.com, METALLICA sold 74,244 tickets over four dates at Sydney, Australia's Acer Arena in September and November, breaking the previous record of 66,247 set by BRITNEY SPEARS over four nights on her "Circus" tour in November 2009.

"It was a massive, awesome performance," Paul Sergeant, GM of Acer Arena, told Bilboard.com. "Even if you weren't a METALLICA follower, you'd have enjoyed that show. It was huge."

METALLICA's 20-date tour, its first "Down Under" in six years, began on September 15 in Melbourne, Australia and ended on November 21 in the same city.

"It's a fantastic tribute to METALLICA, as they approach 25 years since their first Australian tour, that they enjoy such an incredible level of support," Michael Coppel, promoter for the Australasian leg of the group's "World Magnetic" tour, told Billboard.com. "They are one of the greatest live bands ever, and I'm sure everyone who has seen them on this tour will attest to that."

METALLICA has just released a second live EP, titled "Six Feet Under, Part II", as a follow-up to the eight-song EP it issued just prior to the band's current tour of Australia and New Zealand. But unlike that disc, which contained recordings of METALLICA gigs in both countries from earlier years, the new EP features songs recorded live in September and October at shows on the current trek.

"Six Feet Under, Part II" entered the ARIA album chart at positon No. 13.
